Russian Reading Challenge

This challenge is a twelve month challenge, but the minimum number of books to read is only four. Why? Many Russian novels are quite lengthy, so it may take more than one month to read one book. Also, it keeps the burden to a minimum if you are, like me, participating in several reading challenges. You are welcome to read more, though! (Russian Reading Challenge ‘ 08)

Seeing as I am struggling to learn Russian as a language, educating myself in its literature would be very giving. I have only ever read one Russian book (The Master & Margerita by Mikhail Bulgakov), which is a fact I am not especially proud of. This challenge will hopefully make my knowledge of Russian literature a little better!

My preliminary list:

  • Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
  • Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
  • Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
  • One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
  • Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
  • Eugene Onegin by Aleksandr Pushkin

This list will be edited during the year, and links will be added after I’ve read them.
